The Workers Health Centre is the oldest Occupational Rehabilitation provider in NSW. We are a not for profit organisation with a primary focus on providing fair and transparent worker focused return to work (Physical and/or Psychological injuries) outcomes. The Centre has a longstanding affiliation with trade unions, and receives referrals from a wide range of sources including injured workers, treating doctors/allied health practitioners, trade unions and insurers. As a result of the wide referral source, the opportunity exists to work some of Australia's largest companies, government departments, local councils and community organisations.

The Opportunity

Workers Health Centre is in a period of growth and invites applications for experienced or new consultants to join our organisation. Our primary locations are Parramatta and Newcastle, with consulting opportunities available in regional NSW.

The primary purpose of this position is to provide a range of Injury Management and Occupational Rehabilitation services to clients within the NSW Workers Compensation scheme. The main goal is to assist an injured person to return to work in a timely manner by working with the injured worker, their employer and medical/allied health practitioners and their union. A high level of skill in communication with various stakeholders, understanding the Workers Compensation framework and interpreting medical information to facilitate change is required.

Reporting directly to the Operations Manager your responsibilities (depending on your discipline) include:

  • Conducting various assessments with injured workers (Functional Assessments (Physical and Psychological), Workplace, Vocational, Activities of Daily Living)
  • Managing the RTW process using objective medical evidence including arranging and managing the agenda for NTD case conferences
  • Advice to employers and insurers regarding the selection of suitable duties
  • Liaising with treating medical practitioners, employers and relevant allied health practitioners for the duration of the claim with WHC
  • Demonstrating excellent communication both written and verbal particularly when report writing and recording case notes
  • Delivering excellent problem solving and negotiation skills to analyse barriers to RTW
  • Demonstrate the ability to manage time well and work independently and within a team
  • Demonstrate values aligned to the organisation: ethical practice, honesty and integrity
  • Commitment to providing quality services and being part of continuous improvement.

About You

  • Registered Psychologist (provisional registration accepted), Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist, with AHPRA membership(s), Accredited Exercise Physiologist with ESSA registration or Rehabilitation Counsellor with ASORC, ACA, RCAA
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience within the NSW Worker’s Compensation arena
  • New grads may apply: induction and training will be provided
  • Confident and ethical, with sound clinical reasoning and understanding of how to manage physical/ psychological injuries effectively within best practice guidelines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be proficient in the use of Word and Excel
  • Must demonstrate respect and consideration for injured workers while working with all stakeholders
  • You must have ability to build relationships with key stakeholders and assist stakeholder to understand and navigate barriers
  • Current drivers license and own transport essential
