Worawa Aboriginal College is seeking a confident and experienced leader who is flexible and demonstrates initiative and drive, to fill the position of Wellbeing Coordinator. This position will lead the College’s Wellbeing team and coordinate student wellbeing support and programs. A key function of this position is to work collaboratively to implement the Worawa Model of Wellbeing across College operations.

Worawa Aboriginal College is the only boarding school in Australia that caters specifically for Aboriginal girls in secondary years of schooling. Students come from urban, regional and remote Aboriginal communities across the country. The Worawa education model has a distinctive profile based on an integrated Education, Culture, and Wellbeing model.

An Aboriginal initiative, Worawa Aboriginal College is an Independent school, owned and governed by Aboriginal people. This position requires the incumbent to embrace the Worawa ethos recognising Aboriginal values and decision making processes and the right to Aboriginal self-determination. The successful candidates must have:

  • Mental Health or Wellbeing experience in public, private, primary health and/or educational settings
  • Post graduate qualification in psychology, social work, or a related field
  • Membership with an appropriate professional body such as AHPRA, AASW or other recognised counselling body or association
  • Experience working with Aboriginal community and a demonstrated understanding and knowledge of the diversity of Aboriginal cultures and issues affecting the Aboriginal community
  • Prior experience as a team leader / coordinator in the education, youth and/or mental health sector and a demonstrated ability to lead and mentor a team
  • Knowledge of crisis and trauma counselling
  • Proven ability to deliver strategic wellbeing initiatives and innovative solutions
  • Prior experience in the provision of counselling and group work to youth
  • Working knowledge of legislative Child Safety, Mandatory Reporting and Duty of Care requirements
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills and an ability to develop functional working relationships with the breadth of staff at Worawa and external educational and wellbeing services
  • Current Working with Children Check and Police Check
