About the Role

Reporting to the Director of Legal and Policy, the purpose of the senior social worker role is to provide social work support and advocacy for disadvantaged women experiencing family violence or relationship breakdown, with a particular focus on women experiencing financial hardship following family violence.

The social worker will work collaboratively with our lawyers and financial counsellors to assist individual clients and to contribute to the development of policy and systems in the interests of women and the children in their care.

This is a part time (minimum of 0.6EFT) to full time position (negotiable) over a two year contract.

About You

You are a driven, motivated self-starter, committed to delivering optimal outcomes for women.

Key to your success is your:

  • Significant social work experience with the aim of assisting clients to achieve a positive outcome
  • High level skills and knowledge in the provision of social work service to clients requiring assessment, counselling, crisis management, case management, advocacy, intervention and appropriate referral
  • Advanced ability to sensitively communicate with a diverse range of people whilst having understanding and empathy for their complex needs
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills (oral and written) with the demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with staff, clients, external stakeholders and organisations

Qualifications and Experience

You will have:

  • Professional qualifications in Social Work or equivalent discipline
  • Minimum 4 years’ experience in providing a range of assessments, supports and interventions in working within family violence, women and/or trauma
  • Be a member of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) (desirable)
