Women's Legal Service Victoria (Women's Legal) is a highly respected not for profit organisation that has been providing free legal services to women since 1982. We work with and for women experiencing disadvantage to address legal issues arising from relationship breakdown and violence against women.

About the Role

The purpose of this role is to advocate for social change, law and policy reform in the interests of women and their children. You will also play an important role as a change agent in the organisation, supporting and promoting greater integration of Women's Legal legal work for individual clients and its advocacy for broader systemic change.

You will work across the range of policy development and campaigning activities (from identification of systemic issues, through to developing and implementing strategies). You will represent Women's Legal in a variety of forums, and develop and strengthen Women's Legal relationships and networks.

If you have legal qualifications, you may provide legal advice and assistance through Women's Legal service delivery program.

This is fixed-term position for a period of two years at full time or part time (minimum 0.6FTE) status - negotiable.

About You

You are a driven and highly responsive policy/campaigns specialist, who has the ability to work collaboratively to deliver results.
Key to your success is your:

  • Ability to facilitate and encourage change
  • Strategic and systemic thinking and ability to foster these skills in others
  • Ability to analyse the cause of issues impacting on women and to understand relevant legislation
  • Strong communication skills
  • Strong project management skills, including setting priorities, planning and organising work

Qualifications and Experience

You will have a tertiary degree in a relevant discipline and a minimum of five years’ experience in policy and campaigns work.

Other desirable qualifications and experience includes:

  • Qualified Lawyer holding, or eligible to hold, a Victorian practising certificate, with a minimum of three years post admission experience as a lawyer
  • Demonstrated experience in or knowledge of family law/family violence/child protection
  • Experience in government or in a political environment
  • Experience in the community sector
