Women's Legal Service Victoria

About Us

Women’s Legal Service Victoria (Women’s Legal) works with and for women experiencing particular disadvantage to address legal issues arising from relationship breakdown or violence.  We provide legal advice and representation to women experiencing disadvantage - including full representation (through to final hearing) and daily duty lawyer services in an integrated and holistic practice. We also provide in-house financial counselling and social worker support and outreach to family violence organisations, including video conferencing service delivery to clients in regional and remote locations.

We advocate for law and policy that respects and promotes the rights of women by advising on the development of policy and legislation, and advocate on the implications of the intersection of family violence, family law and child protection.

We build the capacity of other professionals and the community to identify and respond appropriately to legal need - working across the continuum from primary prevention of violence against women, early intervention so that women access legal help and make informed choices, through to building the capacity of the tertiary response sector to respond to the legal needs of women impacted by family violence.
