Womens Health & Family Services specialises in women’s health issues, providing medical, counselling, drug and alcohol support, domestic violence, mental health and other health services for women and their families.  The programs and services at Womens Health & Family Services are open to all Western Australian women and their families, with consideration made for the unique needs of Aboriginal, migrant and refugee families.

Womens Health & Family Services is seeking a suitably qualified Domestic Violence Advocate. This position will be situated in Perth, Mirrabooka and outreach locations as required.

This position is responsible to the Coordinator of Domestic Violence Services. The role involves providing advocacy, support, information, referral, outreach and limited case management services to women, with or without children, who are victims or at risk of domestic violence as well as providing advocacy and support for victims of domestic violence identified through the Family and Domestic Violence Response Team.

Womens Health & Family Services aim to create a safe environment within which children and young people can thrive and staff can work with the protection of clear guidance for reporting of abuse and suspected abuse.

The Family and Domestic Violence Response Teams (FDVRT) are a partnership between the Department for Child Protection and Family Support, WA Police and non-government domestic violence services (CRS).

Essential criteria for this position:

  • Tertiary qualifications or equivalent experience in social work, community services, cultural studies, family studies or related fields.
  • Knowledge and experience of providing advocacy and support to individual clients
  • Knowledge regarding domestic violence issues, community development, outreach work and cultural issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a Case Management model.
  • Ability to work in a team and independently.
  • Understanding of access and equity, social justice and multiculturalism in Australia.
  • Class 'C' Driver's license and own transport
  • Computer literacy including sound knowledge and proficiency of Microsoft Applications in particular Word and Outlook.
  • Needs analysis and evaluation.
  • Federal Police Clearance.
  • Working with Children Check.
  • Current Senior First Aid Certificate.
