ORGANISATIONAL ENVIRONMENT

Women’s Health Queensland Inc (whq) is a not for profit health and well-being counselling, promotion, information and education service for women and their families, and health professionals throughout Queensland.

whq service delivery is guided by a strategic and operational plan. We work with a diverse range of clients and stakeholders. We acknowledge that not everyone who may seek our services may identify as female.

As an Incorporated Association, the organisation is led by a Board who works in partnership with the staff to ensure that whq functions as an effective and dynamic organisation.

ABOUT THE JOB

This position supports women who may be at risk of or have experienced gendered violence. Whq works in the prevention and recovery space to help empower women and support them to improve their health and well-being. Alongside working to support individual women, the position will also provide the opportunity to provide support to groups of women and help educate health professionals and the wider community about the impacts of trauma on women and their wellbeing.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES. You will be accountable for:

Working in collaboration with other staff to:

  • Provide client-centred services to whq clients, through face-to-face, telephone and web-based delivery modalities.
  • Assess clients’ health needs to ensure appropriate support is provided to clients.
  • Lead / contribute to group and individual health and wellbeing information and education provision.
  • Provide appropriate referral services to whq clients, if another organisation can better meet the client’s needs.
  • Ensure currency of knowledge regarding best-practice principles.
  • Meet all statutory obligations (such as mandatory reporters in cases of children and young people at risk)
  • Escalate identified issues and clinical risks through formal organisational channels.
  • Adherence to best-practice counselling, health promotion and education frameworks.
  • Identify and foster beneficial relationships with appropriate identified partners and groups to enhance, deliver and extend the services whq offer.
  • Contribute to the planning, implementation and review and revision for continuous quality improvement whq service delivery projects and programs providing women’s health information and education, and building client capacity and self-resilience.
  • Build capacity of local partners when required.

  • Ensure all work practices are ethical and comply with the codes of AHPRA or other relevant professional registration organisations.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to prioritise time and manage allocated workload.
  • Demonstrated computer literacy and ability to use health information systems.
  • Well-developed oral and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range of cultural and social groups.
  • Experience in initiating and managing productive relationships with partner organisations and other stakeholders.
  • An analytical and innovative thinker.
  • Ability to actively understand, communicate and support whq’s vision and strategic goals, and communicate that to stakeholders, internally and externally.

  • Ability to juggle multiple projects concurrently under tight deadlines.
  • Ability to commit to travel within Qld as required
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office Suite applications.
  • Current Working with Children Check, Police Check or similar, or preparedness to obtain

ABOUT YOU

PLEASE RESPOND TO THE FOLLOWING SELECTION CRITERIA IN NO MORE THAN 2-3 A4 PAGES.

  • Tertiary qualification in Occupational Therapy (Mental Health) with AHPRA registration.
  • Three years minimum experience in your professional discipline.
  • Evidence of relevant recent clinical experience working within a community health and or social services setting.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of current clinical and social women’s health and wellbeing issues.
  • Skills and experience in working with women who have experienced gendered violence and trauma.
  • Experience and understanding of issues relating to service delivery that promote socially and culturally inclusive practices. This includes the issues faced by CALD, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples and communities, and other vulnerable and or disadvantaged groups within the context of health and family wellbeing.
  • Understanding of federal and state-based legislation including child protection legislation relevant to service delivery.
  • Skills and experience in developing and delivering education to groups of people including clients, health professionals and the wider community.
  • Capacity and willingness to participate in the occasional provision of an outreach service.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

This Position Description provides the minimum requirements for the role. Extra duties may be required as requested by your direct line manager.

You may be required to work hours outside the normal work hours at varying locations. You will be compensated for any additional costs associated with working outside normal work hours in line with the SCHADS Award and National Employment Standards and whq Policies and Procedures.
