ORGANISATIONAL ENVIRONMENT

Women’s Health Queensland Inc (WHQ) is a not for profit health and well-being service for women. We provide counselling and health and wellbeing support to women across the state while also providing advocacy and community-based capacity building and education.

WHQ service delivery is guided by a strategic and operational plan. We work with a diverse range of clients and stakeholders. We acknowledge that not everyone who may seek our services may identify as female. We are a feminist organisation.

As an Incorporated Association, the organisation is led by a Board who works in partnership with the staff to ensure that WHQ functions as an effective and dynamic organisation.

ABOUT THE JOB

This position provides counselling and case management to women who have identify health, wellbeing or personal, family and or relationship issues. This support will be provided via telephone or using virtual interfaces. In the future (post COVID-19 lockdown) it will also include face-to-face support. Knowledge and expertise in the field of Domestic and Family Violence will be advantageous, as would a qualification in counselling, nursing or midwifery.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES. You will be accountable for:

Working in collaboration with other staff to:

  • Identify and foster beneficial relationships with appropriate identified partners and groups to enhance, deliver and extend the services WHQ offer
  • Build collaborative networks and partnerships to deliver services, including developing web-based and other digital resources
  • Contribute to the planning, implementation and review and revision for continuous quality improvement WHQ service delivery projects and programs providing women’s health information and education, and building client capacity and self-resilience
  • Understand and clearly communicate deliverables to partnership agencies to ensure objectives and standards are achieved
  • Build capacity of local partners when required
  • Contribute to group and individual health and wellbeing information and education provision to WHQ clients
  • Provide client-centred services to WHQ clients, through face-to-face, telephone and web-based delivery modalities
  • Provide appropriate referral services to WHQ clients, if another organisation can better meet the client’s needs
  • Ensure currency of knowledge regarding best-practice principles
  • Assess clients’ health needs to ensure appropriate counselling and support is provided to clients
  • Meet all statutory obligations (such as mandatory reporters in cases of children and young people at risk)
  • Escalate identified issues and clinical risks through formal organisational channels
  • Adherence to best-practice counselling and health promotion and education frameworks

ABOUT YOU

Please respond to the following selection criteria in no more than 2-3 pages.

  • A registered Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Practitioner or hold a tertiary qualification in counselling, midwifery, nursing or social work, with current insurance and registration if required.
  • A community–focussed professional with an understanding of community consultation and engagement.
  • Evidence of relevant recent clinical experience working within a community health and or social services setting.
  • Comprehensive knowledge, skills and clinical experience in assessment, case planning and management, and working in partnership with families and local service networks.
  • Demonstrated skills in providing best practice, quality improvement activity and service development.
  • High level of knowledge of current clinical and social women’s health issues.
  • High level counselling and support skills and an in-depth understanding of how to support women with the impacts of trauma.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Extra duties may be required as requested by your direct line manager.

You may be required to work hours outside the normal work hours at varying locations. You will be compensated for any additional costs associated with working outside normal work hours in line with the SCHADS Award and National Employment Standards and WHQ Policies and Procedures.
