About the opportunity

Our Emergency Relief Program provides emergency assistance to people in need who are in crisis, or experiencing homelessness or hardship in the City of Whitehorse area. The program aims to ensure that consumers can access the basics they need to get through a difficult time.

As the Emergency Relief Support Supervisor, you will work closely with a team of committed volunteers to deliver emergency services to clients who present through the East Burwood Centre. The role will be responsible for recruiting, training, developing and supporting volunteer community workers. Importantly, the role will ensure that community workers are equipped with the necessary skills to effectively assess clients, and support clients to address their needs.

About you

To be successful in your application you will meet the person specification in the position description, including having a degree qualification social work or a related discipline.

You will also have:

  • Previous experience within the homelessness services or community services sector
  • Demonstrated experience supporting vulnerable people who present with various complex needs
  • Well-developed risk and needs assessment skills
  • Proven ability to effectively engage and collaborate with a volunteer workforce in a manner that recognises their contributions
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to form effective working relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders
