About the opportunity

Uniting’s Kinship First Supports program is focused solely on children and young people in statutory kinship placements, being those with an active child protection intervention or protection order. The objectives of the model include to:

  • Identify kinship networks early
  • Strengthen reunification where appropriate
  • Promote placement quality and support children and young people living with kinship families to thrive
  • Promote placement stability, including reducing the likelihood of entry into residential care

This role is responsible for the provision of practice support, guidance and mentoring of caseworkers to ensure work with clients is high quality, clinically sound and outcome-focused. The Senior Practitioner will ensure risk is appropriately and quickly identified and responded to, staff are well supported and high standards of practice care are followed.

About you

We would love to hear from you if you have:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in Social Work or equivalent including Psychology, Family Therapy, Youth or Early Childhood Development.
  • Demonstrated experience including working with children, young people at risk and vulnerable families.
  • Demonstrated skills and experience in working with dis-empowered and vulnerable families, including capacity to engage clients and establish effective helping relationships.
  • Work with clients to bring about change and an understanding of the issues involved in casework with children, young people and families from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and Aboriginal families.
  • Knowledge and experience of a range of relevant intervention strategies and frameworks.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet timelines, targets and other key deliverables with excellent written and verbal communication skills, and report writing skills are essential.
