About the opportunity

The Komak Program is a Community Engagement Early Response Model which delivers prevention and engagement activities in Afghan communities. Working in partnership with community stakeholders, the program aims to increase inclusion and belonging, and strengthen community resilience.

As a Community Engagement Worker, you will provide early intervention support to individuals, parents and young people who may be vulnerable to anti-social behaviours. The role will support community members through innovative outreach, advocacy and referral to appropriate support services. The Community Engagement Worker will also assist in the delivery of training sessions, workshops and social/cultural events in an effort to support the local community and enhance social cohesion.

About you

To be successful in your application you will meet the person specification in the position description, including having a degree qualification in social work, psychology or a related discipline.

You will also have:

  • Knowledge and understanding to the Best Interest Principles and Children, Youth and Families Act 2005
  • An understanding of Afghan ethnic diversity and issues experienced by ‘at risk’ young people
  • Demonstrated experience in supporting and actively engaging young people and families through outreach services
  • Proven ability to work flexibly and innovatively to meet the needs of families and young people
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
