About the program

The Getting it Together service is an early intervention program designed to assist young people aged between 12 and 25 years of age with alcohol and/or other drug problems. The goal of the program is to provide services and support to enable vulnerable young people to transition to or resume self-sufficient living, free of dependence on alcohol and/or other drugs.

About the role

Wesley Youth Outreach is a targeted early intervention program assisting vulnerable young people with difficulties connected to substance use.

An opportunity exists for an experienced, motivated and teachable person to join our small team providing short-term interventions and support to promote healthy self-reliance, family connection and community participation – free from dependence on alcohol and other drugs.

This is a demanding but rewarding role, requiring initiative, resilience, collaboration, creativity and genuine compassion. It involves working from offices in Gosford and neighbouring districts, in partner organisations and in homes of the young people we support. Work is predominantly one-on-one but may include groups and community education.  It will require travel throughout the Central Coast and occasional earlier starts or later finishes.

  • effective communication skills and administrative competencies – rapid rapport, advocacy, computer literacy, documentation, data collection
  • proven ability to perform in complex and challenging community welfare settings and – ability to respond to crises, flexible and creative approaches to work, matched with tested personal attributes such as resilience, patience, initiative, compassion and commitment to self-care
  • ability to embrace the values of Wesley Mission and work within its codes of ethics and conduct – and to work respectfully alongside the mission and values or partner organisations.

  • helpful local, sector or organisational knowledge
  • familiarity with sector practice guidelines, information systems and outcome measures.
