About the program

Mums & Kids Matter is a Wesley Mission program that supports mothers and their children (0-5years) who have diagnosed mental illness, by promoting healthy attachment, building confidence in parenting as well as psychosocial skills.

About the role

We are looking for a registered Social Worker (AASW) experienced in working with vulnerable families. The candidate will work within a multidisciplinary team that delivers a 24-hour residential service as well as in-house community service across NSW.

As a member of a larger multidisciplinary team, your key role will be to provide case management of different levels of complexity. The day-to-day tasks of this role involve supporting clients with housing, Centrelink, financial services, domestic and family violence issues, NDIS and linking into community supports.

Essential criteria

  • Tertiary qualifications in Social Work and registration with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).
  • Experience in working with vulnerable families with ranging complex needs
  • Experience in navigating the Housing and Centrelink systems
  • Familiar with care coordination/case management
  • Experience within the mental health sector
  • Experience with Child Protection issues
  • Knowledge and commitment to working in a person-centred recovery-oriented approach
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills – including diplomacy, the ability to be adaptable, self-motivated and demonstrate empathy towards others
  • Willingness to travel regionally and overnight as needed
  • Must hold a current unrestricted NSW driver’s licence

Desirable criteria

  • Demonstrated experience assessing for peri-natal and infant mental health
  • Knowledge of attachment theory
  • Experience with child protection assessments
  • Experience with running groups
  • Experience working with families (including children 0-5)
  • Maintain professional competency standards of Child and Family best practice

Remuneration

The salary range for this position is in accordance with the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award (SCHADS) Level 5.
