About the program

Wesley Mission’s Community and Family Care teams build resilience and strengthen capacity in the local communities where we work. We support people using evidence-based, trauma-informed, person-centred approach in a holistic manner and on a voluntary basis. We are looking for an outstanding Group Worker who is conscientious, reliable, and motivated about making a difference.

About the role

As a Group Worker within the Targeted Earlier Intervention program you will providing community-based services with the goal of preventing children and young people from entering the child protection system. You will deliver specialised practice in planning and conducting groups, events, and workshops. The Group Worker will also promote, foster, and build community connections to increase referral pathways, improve referral systems, develop Indigenous and CALD community engagement and improve service awareness.

All staff at Child, Youth & Family work hard to develop and maintain harmonious working relationships in an autonomous-supportive work environment where they are all trained to be the best in their field. Wesley Mission provides regular supervision, support, and training for all staff.

Essential criteria

• Relevant tertiary qualification & minimum 2 years’ experience working in the community welfare system
• Demonstrated ability to engage families at the point of initial contact and build collaborative working relationships
• Knowledge and experience in developing and running groups
• Ability to maintain and form strong and professional networks with external stakeholders
• Ability to work effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (ATSI), Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) organisations and other vulnerable communities
• Flexibility to work some evenings and occasional Saturdays
• Current NSW or National driver’s licence
• Working with Children’s Check & criminal record history check.

Desirable criteria

• Broad understanding of the local child and family support sector
• Child protection knowledge and experience.
