About the program

Wesley Employment & Training (WE&T) is a leading provider of Disability Employment Services (DES) nationally. WE&T deliver services from three permanent and three outreach locations in the Greater Newcastle area. A position has become available servicing job seekers and business across some of these locations.

About the role

Working from selected sites in Wallsend, Newcastle West and Charlestown, and from outreaches in Salamander Bay, Raymond Terrace and Toronto, the WE&T Employment Consultant will support job seekers to achieve their mutual obligation requirements, with a focus on achieving outcomes defined by the funding body. You will be joining a focused and dynamic team which works actively with our clients to help them achieve their goals and improve their lives.

The successful applicant will:

  • Support a person-centred approach to achieve defined KPIs
  • Help job seekers achieve positive outcomes
  • Perform administrative tasks relevant to the funding agreement
  • Build relationships with key stakeholders including job seekers, employers, employer groups and training organisations

Essential criteria

  • Qualifications in employment services, mental health and/or community services
  • An ability to work within and apply compliance framework
  • Demonstrated ability to build effective and lasting relationships with key stakeholders
  • The ability to challenge job seeker attitudes and behaviour when required in a tactful and constructive manner
  • Previous experience working in a government funded employment services
  • Current unrestricted NSW driver’s licence
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to plan workloads effectively in an environment requiring sound administrative skills

Desirable criteria

  • Experience working within a government funded employment service
  • An understanding of issues faced by people with a psychiatric condition
  • Working with the Employment Services System (ESS)
