InDIGO Principles of Practice

The principles of practice are:

  1. As a woman focused service, the InDIGO Program will work towards ending the disadvantaged position women are placed in navigating and accessing the legal system and non-legal services. We recognise that there are barriers women face while in and leaving violent relationships that are often reinforced by the structure of the legal system. We will strive to reduce these barriers and promote access to social justice.
  2. Women need a safe place to seek assistance, information and help. We will create and maintain a safe, sensitive, open and respectful environment for women. We recognise the individual and unique story of each woman’s experience of family violence.
  3. Legal needs are only one part of a women’s experience of domestic violence. We will provide a wrap-around service that recognises women have many facets to their lives whilst seeking protection and support.
  4. We will create and maintain a safe, respectful, participative and just environment for all staff who work for the InDIGO Program whether paid or unpaid.
  5. The InDIGO Program by working holistically as part of the broader movement to protect women from violence. For this reason, we value the contribution of other services can make to our development.
