Warddeken Land Management was established in 2007 by Nawarddeken elders, whose vision was to see healthy people living, working on, and caring for the kuwarddewardde, the stone country of west Arnhem Land, Northern Territory. An exciting opportunity exists for the right candidate to join our dedicated team and work alongside Traditional Owners to achieve this vision.

Warddeken Land Management now operates three ranger bases to assist Nawarddeken to care for the 14,000 square kilometers of the Warddeken Indigenous Protected Area (IPA) of west Arnhem Land. The Warddeken IPA covers rugged sandstone escarpments, savanna woodland and lowlands and includes some of the Northern Territory’s most biodiverse environments. This spectacular region is exceptional in both its natural and cultural values and working in this extraordinary part of the world is a unique, challenging and rewarding experience.

Based in the remote community of Mamadawerre (approx. 360km east of Darwin), at our newest and rapidly growing ranger base, the successful applicant will work closely with landowners, rangers and the Mamadawerre community on a range of land management and cultural programs, assisting Warddeken Land Management deliver world-class results. Our ideal candidate is highly practical, adventurous, motivated and must be passionate about working with Indigenous people and caring for country.

This is a highly collaborative role that will also require the Mamadawerre Ranger Coordinator to work closely with colleagues at Mamadawerre, namely the Mamadawerre Daluk (Women) Ranger Coordinator and the Nawarddeken Academy, and those at our ranger bases in Manmoyi and Kabulwarnamyo communities. The Mamadawerre Ranger Coordinator will continue to support our Rock Art and Ecological Monitoring projects while maintaining relationships with numerous external partners and stakeholders.

This position will involve a significant amount of travel within the remote Warddeken IPA and require the successful applicant to spend much time camping and working away from Mamadawerre.
