about us

WLHH, Victoria's first women's refuge, operating since 1974 has recently relocated into the Northern metropolitan region into a new Core and Cluster purpose-built high security family violence refuge containing six independent units. We are a small service who is experiencing significant growth.

WLHH is a non-profit organisation that provides short-term intensive support, crisis accommodation and outreach services to victim survivors experiencing family violence.

VISION

Our vision is a community free from violence in which women, men and gender non-conforming people have equal access to power and freedom to realise their life choices and potential.

MISSION

WLHH provides a comprehensive crisis response to victim/survivors experiencing family violence, including people from communities with access to least resources, to effectively support them in their transition and recovery.

VALUES

Respect: WLHH provides a service that dignifies individual choices, experiences, cultures and rights to self-determination.

Collaboration: WLHH builds partnerships and collaborate with others, in support of those who use our service, to achieve individual holistic, positive outcomes, and to advocate for systemic changes to policy, law and community attitudes.

Feminist: WLHH is a feminist organisation whose work is underpinned by a structural and intersectional understanding of gender inequality.

ORGANISATIONAL CONTEXT

WLHH is focused on providing a safe environment for women and children to consider a range of options for their future and to own their decisions. We are committed to seeking outcomes that recognise each client and their child/ren as an individual with particular needs.

This role will work with four other practitioners, including a children's specialist to assist in providing and obtaining a wide variety of support measures in order to assist clients to assess options and to re-direct their lives.

Support issues include cultural, advocacy, legal / court, medical, drug and alcohol, mental health, emotional, practical, counselling, financial, housing along with many others as they arise. Support workers will also be recruited to provide overnight and weekend assistance to our residents.

As we are in a new region, networking and relationship building will also be an important aspect of this position, as will be the ability to adapt and work with change as new systems and processes are developed to support a 24/7 service delivery model.

Our feminist team environment is one of support that encourages self responsibility and reflection. On going professional development and training opportunities are regularly provided as is supervision.
