Who are we?

Wintringham is a not-for-profit organisation providing an extensive range of aged care, housing and related support services to men and women aged 50-plus who have been homeless or at risk of homelessness. We employ over 800 staff and operate from multiple offices across Melbourne, Hobart and regional Victoria.

Wintringham is renowned for the quality, and range, of personalised lifestyle and recreation activities/outcomes we support our clients to achieve. Our multi-skilled Recreation Team utilise their recreation and leisure counselling skills to create an approach that is both meaningful and tailored to our clients’ interests and to assist in achieving their desired outcomes.

The From Homelessness to a Home (H2H) initiative supports the people who have experienced long-term homelessness and disadvantage and have complex needs. This program will provide the affordable housing and support they need to promote their health and wellbeing and prevent a return to homelessness.

Your new role

We are currently seeking a proactive individual to join our Recreation Team as the Recreation Officer for the From Homelessness to a Home (H2H) Program. Reporting to the Recreation Coordinator (H2H), you will continually develop recreation and social opportunities to meet the individual goals, interests and needs of each client. You will also liaise with Support & Clinical Teams to develop a sound approach to the client’s overall lifestyle and wellbeing.

Your responsibilities and duties will also include:

  • Establish a Leisure/Lifestyle profile and plan for each client
  • Develop clients’ social and recreational pursuits by identifying individual values and interests, connecting with support networks and creating opportunities for engagement.
  • Support clients to maintain their involvement in a personalised leisure, lifestyle and recreation program, designed to promote their health and wellbeing.
  • Maintain a flexible but reliable approach to match the needs of the individual client, foster a positive relationship and encourage ongoing client involvement in the wider community.
  • Assist in the development of program processes, Guidelines, Policies and Procedures.
  • Liaise with H2H workers and other key stakeholders to develop a sound approach to the clients overall lifestyle and wellbeing.

We are looking for candidates with the following:

  • A current Victorian drivers licence and own reliable vehicle
  • An approved qualification in Recreation or equivalent
  • Experience in Recreation Therapy or Lifestyle and Leisure.
  • Demonstrated skills and experience in working effectively and sensitively with a broad range of clients, including those with high support needs and challenging behaviours
  • Excellent administration and computer skills
  • Ability to work independently to manage, plan and organise one’s own work.
  • Knowledge of housing and support issues facing older homeless people who may have a physical and/or mental disability and/or drug and alcohol issues.
