Role
- Education support staff member for 1:1 care of student with a disability
- 1:1 care of a student with high medical needs; following procedures determined by Royal Children Hospital Community Care team, and after appropriate training.
Responsibilities
The responsibilities of this position will be:
Specific duties:
- ES staff will be assigned to a specific student and provide specific medical support for this student
- Undertake specific Royal Children’s Hospital (RCH) training to support designated student
General duties
General educational support including:
- supporting student communication and learning including using specialised equipment
- coactive assistance to access programs
- recording student progress under the guidance of a teacher
- yard duty including supporting student in recreational activities
Physically supporting and working with student including:
- in classroom and recreational programs
- lifting and hoisting
Moving student in wheelchair around the school, to and from buses, and on excursions including:
- pushing manual wheelchair
- engaging and disengaging brakes
- harnessing wheelchair in buses
- steering power wheelchair
Maintaining personal care of student as required including:
- mealtime assistance
- dressing and undressing student
- toileting assistance
- full support of student’s personal needs on campus and excursions
Attending to medical needs:
- care and management of tracheostomy
- care and management of CPAP machine
- monitoring and supporting student’s safety, health and wellbeing
Administrative duties:
- other duties as outlined in the EBA 2017
- other duties as designated by the Principal
