The Women’s Housing Company (WHC) Limited is a specialist provider of housing and homelessness services to women with and without children and is looking to appoint a Financial Accountant to join their high performing Finance Team. With almost 40 years of history, experience and commitment, the WHC has grown and expanded its services to provide crisis, transitional, social and affordable housing across Sydney, the Hunter and Coffs Harbour.

What we’re looking for:

We’re looking for a motivated and diligent Financial Accountant who can effectively support the finance function to ensure that statutory and financial reporting requirements are produced to a high standard.

Reporting to the Finance Manager, our ideal candidate will be technically proficient, have excellent attention to detail (but also able to stand back to check that the end product makes sense), be analytical, proficient in systems, have excellent time management, be keen to learn, and a dedicated team player.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Support the Finance Manager to deliver all statutory and financial accounts through the accurate and timely recording of all financial information into the relevant systems
  • Complete monthly, quarterly and annual financial and statutory reporting obligations
  • Assist with the preparation of statutory financial statements
  • Prepare balance sheet reconciliations
  • Provide the accounting support required for internal and external audits
  • Compliance requirements – PAYG, BAS, reporting to funding bodies etc
  • Manage the fixed assets register
  • Prepare monthly journals
  • Assist with preparation of the annual budgets, forecasts and variance analysis
  • Timely and accurate fortnightly payroll processing
  • Provide back up to the Financial Assistant in some functions
  • Assist with testing of new software upgrades

Selection criteria:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Accounting/Commerce/Business - essential
  • CPA or CA qualifications or working towards - essential
  • Payroll experience highly regarded but not essential
  • Min. 3 years’ previous experience as an assistant or financial accountant is desirable however high performing first movers from Big 4/mid-tier chartered environments will be considered
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Word, and the ability to quickly learn new systems
  • High level of numeracy and analytical skills
  • Excellent time management skills and able to juggle competing priorities
  • Mandatory National Police Check
