Western Sydney Community Centre (WSCC) is a DGR registrant NFP Charity organisation that works with disadvantage individuals, families and new migrants in the alleviation of social isolation by creating an active and inclusive Australian multicultural society. WSCC is a local community organisations focused on multicultural values that are creating inroads into traditional isolated community groups by ensuring the organisation, its management and staff are diverse, supportive and attentive to the entire community regardless of ability, race, colour or religion.

Scope of position:

To improve accessibility and service of CALD communities in Western and South Western Sydney. In this role you'll be connecting people with services and programs that will make a real difference to their quality of life. You will provide support and assistance to people with disability, their family and carers to be independent and live a more accessible and connected life and build their capacity to empower them to achieve their goals.

As the NDIS Capacity Building Coordinator you will build on community and key stakeholder capacity aimed at enhancing a service culture that promotes person centred outcomes that reflect the rights of people with disability to exercise choice and control over their life. As well as provide flexible and responsive assistance that contributes to the quality and wellbeing of participants

The position requires the skills of a proficient, organised and self-motivated professional with excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills. A consultative approach and the ability to assess complex issues and identify solutions is essential. You must have highly developed organisational and facilitating abilities in order to manage information sessions; and the exceptional ability to communicate and explain information to all levels of the community.

Most of all, you must have a commitment to delivering an exceptional experience for people with a disability. We are seeking to complement our culturally sensitive team and welcome bi-lingual and multi-lingual staff fluent in both English and Arabic.

In this role, you can expect to undertake and facilitate group support, workshops, seminars, casework, and a variety of tasks that improve the lives of people with a disability and their families.

Objectives:

The National Disability Insurance Scheme Capacity Building Coordinator must fully comply with achieving the following objectives

  • Assist people with disability, their families and carers to build and pursue their goals for a 'normal' life, exercise control and engage with the Scheme
  • Ensure that people with disability can be supported outside of the Scheme by working with communities and mainstream services to build awareness and to become more inclusive of the range of needs and aspirations of people with disability
  • Develop projects that provide support and assistance to people with disability and their families
  • Provide Peer support and facilitate group capacity building activities
  • Improve capacity, knowledge and confidence to individuals with a disability
  • Develop and administer project plans into 3 individual streams
  • Develop both individual and community sector capacity skills
  • Eliminate the stigma associated with disability in CALD communities
  • Provide training and leadership skills to carers and families
  • Improve the mental health and well-being of Parents, Carers and families
  • Assist and Support Clients to Plan and prepare their own NDIS agreements
  • Complete all reports and evaluations as required by the NDIS ILC contract
  • Ability to establish systems and processes that support best practice
  • Developing and implementing effective, efficient and sustainable initiatives to support people with a disability and their families for the purpose of understanding the NDIS.
  • Work Closely with all other Staff and Projects
  • Network and collaborate with existing organisations to deliver timely, effective and integrated services to the Community.

Selection Criteria:

Essentials: Applicants should be able to demonstrate their experience and knowledge with regard to the following selection criteria:

  • Detailed knowledge of NDIS and relevant Tertiary qualification or significant experience in Mental Health/Disability/Community services
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement managerial, staffing and disability program support strategies relevant to the NDIS, which can be reviewed and evaluated
  • Experience in policy development, project planning, implementation and evaluation
  • Understanding of relevant Federal and State legislation and how it relates to the care and protection of Clients in your state or territory
  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to negotiate and advocate on behalf the community
  • Well-developed written and oral communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills
  • A sound knowledge & understanding of the issues affecting individuals and the community of Non English Speaking Backgrounds
  • The ability to provide services such as casework and counselling
  • Proven ability to follow a work plan and achieve objectives
  • Fluency in English & Arabic
  • Current First Aid and CPR Certificate
  • Current state/territory Australian driver’s license and willingness to use private vehicle if required

Desirables:

  • Experience working with people with a disability, community and people from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) background, Indigenous, low socio-economic, and socially or geographically isolated individuals
  • Understanding of government and non-government organisations within the local area, including access to services for families.
  • Computer literacy skills, which include data entry, word and Excel
  • Understanding of community development principles

Occupational Health and Safety:

  • Actively participate in the identification, reduction and resolution of potential hazards, issues and safe practices within the workplace.
  • Actively promote safety and safe work practices to all clients, staff, visitors and Management

Police Check and Working with Children Checks:

All employees of WSCC are required to consent to a national police check or child protection screening being undertaken in line with the corresponding State requirement.
