About the role

The Social Worker/Counselling role is part of the Child, Youth and Family Team. The role involves direct counselling services to cohealth clients in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams. Counselling duties are the primary focus but the position also includes casework, client-directed care-planning, group work, case conferencing and health promotion.

Your daily duties will vary but your main focus will include:

  • Provide ethical, evidence-based, flexible, professional goal-directed and client-centred case management and counselling services to a range of individuals, groups and families with a particular focus on children
  • Provide a culturally safe, trauma-informed counselling service;
  • Provide casework, referral and advocacy to clients
  • Work with other professionals in an inter-professional approach within the Child Youth & Family team and work with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Provide group work, outreach, and secondary consultation

About you:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Social Work with eligibility to membership of AASW or an equivalent qualification as determined by cohealth
  • A counselling qualification and a minimum of two years demonstrated experience in the provision of counselling
  • Proven capacities to work effectively with children aged 0-18 years of age
  • Understanding of trauma-informed practices
  • An understanding of the family violence, mental health and child protection sector
  • Capacity for client-centred care planning, counselling assessment and intervention skill
  • Experience conducting mental health risk assessment and safety planning
  • A sensitivity to, and understanding of, the needs of clients from diverse backgrounds
  • Effective communication skills, time and stress management skills
  • Sound knowledge of information technology systems and software
