About the role

  • 0.8 /1 EFT until 30 June 2023 with the likelihood of extension.
  • Work location: Footscray, currently a Hybrid work model.
  • This role is a Grade 5 under the Agreement of Managers & Administrative Officers.

The Population Health Analyst is instrumental in ensuring cohealth's health promotion and inclusion initiatives are appropriately targeted to address health inequities. This cluster is undertaking an exciting new program of work to drive better health outcomes in our services and in our communities.

The Population Health Analyst will use their technical expertise to analyse and interpret quantitative data on the health of our community members and our clients, at a population level, and produce useful outputs (e.g., profiles, dashboards) and visualisations to inform program and service responses. They will work collaboratively with the Manager, Health Promotion, to use their work to shape health promotion initiatives, including service and program responses.

Your daily duties will vary but will include:

  • Responsible for collating, analysing and interpreting quantitative data on the health and wellbeing of the population across cohealth's catchment, as relevant to the organisation's health promotion priority areas
  • Maintain a repository of population health data as relevant to the organisation's health promotion priority areas to allow the provision of a proactive and responsive information service
  • Develop and maintain easy to use and interactive data visualisations/dashboards and reports on the population's health and the impact of the Health Promotion Program
  • Data profiling to identify and understand anomalies and advise the Health Promotion Manager and communicate key findings with a range of audience
  • Support data quality improvement initiatives, including collaborating on solutions and providing training to co-workers in areas of expertise

What we're looking for:

  • Tertiary degree in public health, statistics, epidemiology or similar discipline
  • Experience using statistical methods to assess/ understand population's health, through the collation, analysis and interpretation of health service data to support decision making
  • At least 2 years' experience extracting / manipulating / analysing raw data and turning this into intelligence, ideally in a healthcare/community planner role
  • Strong time management and prioritisation skills, demonstrated by an ability to work in a self-directed way to manage several projects simultaneously, ensuring planning, organising and prioritising workload to meet deadlines
  • High standard of verbal and written communication to a range of audiences, including communicating difficult concepts in simple language
  • High-level problem-solving abilities
