About the Role

The LGBTQIA+ Peer Work Program seeks to improve the health and wellbeing of the LGBTIQA+ community by providing recovery-oriented, trauma-informed, and culturally safe support. LGBTQIA+ Peer Workers will provide short-term support, with an emphasis on assisting consumers to navigate health and community services. The positions will be embedded into cohealth's mental health pathways team and will receive capacity building support from cohealth's Diversity & Inclusion team (including specialist mentoring through the Zoe Belle Gender Collective). The positions will be based at cohealth's Footscray and Collingwood sites.

Your daily duties will be diverse however, will include:

  • Providing a point of contact for LGBTQIA+ people accessing or seeking to access services
  • Providing individual and group-based support that promote wellbeing and recovery
  • Developing effective partnerships with a range of services, organisations and communities
  • Building the capacity of cohealth and external services to provide culturally safe, inclusive and affirmative care to LGBTIQA+ people

About You

Our ideal candidate for this candidate will have:

  • Lived experience as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, Asexual or other non-hetero-normative identities/experiences
  • Lived experience of mental health/psychological distress and recovery and the capability to sharing lived experience as part of recovery-oriented practice
  • Demonstrated knowledge of LGBTIQA+ affirmative, culturally safe and inclusive practice
  • Relevant qualification in health, social services or community development, or experience working in the health or community sector
