About the role

This is a 6-month, full time position that sits within the Justice Response cluster in the Family Violence team based in Footscray and falls under the Social & Community Services Agreement.

This position provides specialised family violence counselling service for women and is focused on the safety of women and children. Presenting with issues such as trauma, relationships concerns, depression and anxiety.

This position will coordinate the Family Violence groups within the team and will support other workers within the Family Violence team who may be running these groups.

Your daily duties will vary but will include:

  • To assess the risk to women and children who have experienced family violence
  • Provide counselling services to women experiencing or who have experienced family violence within a framework that acknowledges the gendered nature of family violence
  • Provide ethical, flexible, professional goal-directed and client-centred counselling services to a range of individuals and families within a system approach
  • Provide case management assistance as required that includes short term casework, referral and advocacy to clients particularly where this would enhance the therapeutic work and/or where other services are not available
  • Provide services in a manner that are sensitive to each client's background and beliefs (e.g cultural)
  • Keep abreast of and utilise evidence-based and best practice approaches
  • Work with other professionals in an inter-professional approach and work with both internal and external stakeholders to provide a coordinated approach that is based on goal-directed care-planning
  • Coordinate the Family Violence teams group work, through planning groups, record keeping and group work acquittals for external funders
  • Ensure all reporting, record keeping, data management and other administrative duties are completed in a timely fashion
  • Maintain knowledge, skills, qualifications, accreditations and registrations through participation in professional development activities
  • Carry out duties in a manner that does not adversely affect their own health and safety of others by reporting all incidents and injuries as well as cooperating with any measures introduced in the workplace to improve Work Health & Safety (WHS)
  • Comply and adhere to all cohealth policies and procedures including code of conduct and values
  • Undertake special projects or tasks as required; and
  • Perform all other duties as directed, within the limits of skills, competence and training to maximise flexibility and effectiveness.

Who are we looking for?

  • Tertiary qualifications in Social Work
  • Eligibility for membership of Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW)
  • Proven capacities to work effectively with women impacted by family violence and their children
  • Demonstrated capacity to conduct risk assessments and safety planning for women and children
  • High-level understanding of the impact of trauma and the ability to use trauma-informed practice interventions
  • High level of understanding of how Family violence affects children and young people
  • A sensitivity to, and understanding of, the needs of clients from diverse backgrounds
  • Effective communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Sound knowledge of information technology systems and software such as Microsoft Word, Outlook and client management systems.
  • Need compliance documents - Working with Children's Check, Valid Victorian Driver's license, Victorian Police check & COVID Vaccination Certificate
