About the role

HRAR - High Risk Accommodation Response for COVID program designed to prevent outbreak and prepare housing providers and residents in high risk accommodation to respond to covid safety requirements. The program coordinates a broad range of services including healthcare, community engagement, emergency response, logistics and covid vaccination and testing to support the safety of residents in high risk housing including public housing high rises, low rises, boarding/rooming houses, and caravan parks.

The Community Engagement Coordinator COVID-19 will be part of the Community Engagement function of the program. Community engagement is an integral part of HRAR and will ensure the program is responsive and tailored to the needs of the residents and owners. The program will focus on localised response that form strong connections with the community. This includes employing people with lived experience and language skills in different high-risk accommodation settings, and partnering with community groups and organisations to engage residents around covid safety and recovery.

Key accountabilities include:

  • Supervise and provide support to Health Guides /Concierges (peer workers) to safely contribute to planning and engagement activities
  • Support the professional development and learning needs of Health Guides/Concierges
  • Develop and maintain partnerships and communication with local service providers and community leaders to support engagement
  • Facilitate engagement activities and work with community to understand different needs around covid safety
  • Build capacity of local leaders and services to respond and lead their own covid safety and recovery activities
  • Support the auditing and testing process with effective engagement strategies that identify and respond to community needs for each site
  • Contribute to program reporting and implementation of the Community Engagement Strategy
  • Undertake duties as directed by the line manager in a fast-paced and evolving environment

About you:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or a minimum of 5 years' experience in a role with skills and approaches demonstrably relevant to that of Community Engagement including: community development, social work, public/community health, community services
  • Good project management and problem solving skills, and ability to be agile and adapt quickly
  • Experience and understanding of trauma-informed practice and working with people with lived experience of homelessness, alcohol and other drugs, refugee and migrant background, and/or culturally diverse
  • Strong understanding of community development approaches and meaningful engagement and codesign with community
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills and written and verbal communication with diverse audiences
  • Flexible and understanding each day can be very different
