The Women’s Electoral Lobby (WEL) NSW is an independent, feminist, non-profit, non-party political lobby group founded in 1972.

Building on almost 50 years of feminist advocacy work, WEL NSW is looking to recruit a highly motivated and experienced feminist to work in the casual role (2-days per week) of Membership Engagement & Fundraising Coordinator.

This role works closely with the WEL NSW Executive, WEL’s membership and other advocacy groups to ensure that WEL builds its ongoing capacity to achieve social change for women.

The focus of this position is to strengthen WEL’s communication in support of its lobbying activities, maintain and build WEL’s operational capacity, increase the size and diversity of WEL’s support base, and assist with fund raising initiatives.

THE COORDINATOR WILL BE EXPECTED TO:

  1. Strengthen WEL's communication, including maintaining and updating the WEL website, regular social media activities, distribution of WEL e-news.
  2. Maintain and improve WEL's database, NationBuilder.
  3. Respond promptly to all enquiries and requests from members and others.
  4. Encourage membership engagement and retention.
  5. Assist with WEL's fundraising and membership acquisition activities as required.
  6. Assist in growing and sustaining WEL's pool of potential volunteers.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  1. Skills and experience in a range of social media and online tools.
  2. Relevant membership engagement and fundraising experience - not for profit, volunteer organisation.
  3. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with people of diverse backgrounds.
  4. Proficiency in use of membership databases, preferable NationBuilder.
  5. Good organisational and planning skills.
  6. Ability to promote WEL's feminist goals and policies.

DESIRABLE SKILLS:

  1. Experience in communications or marketing.
  2. Relationship management and networking experience, including working with volunteers.
  3. Experience in events management.

TERMS & CONDITIONS OF ENGAGEMENT

This is a casual (2-days or 16 hours per week) position, reviewed after a 6-month period.

REMUNERATION

Salary based on 2 days/16 hours per week and including casual loading is in the vicinity of $37,000 per annum (plus superannuation) paid on a fortnightly basis.

Position focus

The focus of this position is to strengthen WEL's communication in support of its lobbying activities, maintain and build WEL's operational capacity, increase the size and diversity of WEL's support base, and assist with fund raising activities.

Rationale

WEL requires a large and active membership and supporter base, and sufficient funding, to lobby and campaign for equality for women. The Coordinator role is essential to maintaining WEL’s influence as a leading ‘go to feminist’ organisation and embedding our financial sustainability.

Currently a casual position, 16 hours per week, the Co-ordinator works with the WEL Executive, WEL’s membership and other advocacy groups to ensure that WEL builds its ongoing capacity to achieve social change for women.

Key responsibilities

  1. Strengthen WEL's communication in support of WEL's lobbying activities, including maintaining and updating the WEL website, regular social media activities, distribution of WEL e-news to members and supporters.
  2. Maintain and improve WEL’s database, NationBuilder, to ensure it is up to date and able to contribute effectively to campaigning and fund raising.
  3. Respond promptly to all enquiries and requests from members and others.
  4. Encourage membership engagement and retention through regular contact & communication, follow up with lapsed members, organising member events.
  5. Assist with WEL’s fund raising and membership acquisition activities as required, such as regular donation campaigns, cross-promotion of WEL's fundraising and engagement programs.
  6. Assist in growing and sustaining WEL’s pool of potential volunteers.

Other requirements

  • Monthly report to the WEL Executive, which meets every second Wednesday of the month. Attending all or part of the meeting may be required.
  • Have a working knowledge of WEL’s policy positions across all of WEL’s campaigns to answer email, phone and face to face queries.
  • Attend meetings as required.
