This is an amazing opportunity to shape the future of peer and community-led mental health services by being part of the launch of the Local Mental Health and Wellbeing Service in Benalla & Wangaratta.

You'll work with the local community to ensure they will get valuable and supportive mental health care in their community, no matter their experience.

This local support is a key recommendation of the recent Royal Commission into Victoria's mental health system and promises to make our community a better place to live.

Wellbeing Service

Wellways, Albury Wodonga Health and ACSO are working together to provide mental health and wellbeing supports in Benalla & Wangaratta to ensure everyone can access treatment and care closer to home.  

The new Benalla & Wangaratta Mental Health Local will provide welcoming and inclusive support for people aged 26 years and over who are experiencing mental health challenges, including people with co-occurring alcohol and drug addiction treatment and care needs. 

We are working with the local community and people who have a personal experience of mental health issues and recovery to build these services so they are the best they can be.  Our services will be led by lived experience and coproduced with the local community so they are the best they can be.

The Role

The Community Capacity Coordinator, employed by Wellways, will lead a team including a Promotional Officer, Community Engagement Workers, Volunteer Coordinator, and Carer Peer Workers.

Through co-design with the community, you will develop and implement strategies to promote engagement of the community in understanding and addressing challenges to mental health wellbeing.

This role will represent Wellways in a variety of settings, interagency meetings, stakeholder's meetings and speaking engagements and will participate in local networks to promote the Local service and referral pathways, supporting strategies for building sector capacity around mental wellbeing and responding to psychological distress.

This role will require you to work across both the Benalla and Wangaratta sites.

Requirements

  • Minimum Cert IV in Social Science or related discipline
  • Demonstrated skill in establishing empowering and supportive partnerships with communities and a broad range of services in the community
  • Experience in managing a Community Capacity team
  • Thorough understanding of mental health recovery and evidence based, best practice supports that enable people to sustain their social and emotional wellbeing enhance their own wellbeing and identity
  • Current Victorian Drivers Licence
  • National Police Check, Working with Children Check, Evidence of right to work within Australia and evidence of COVID-19 booster vaccination or valid medical exemption
