About the opportunity

Are you looking for an opportunity to draw on your lived experience of supporting loved ones through mental ill health and their recovery in a role that will see you supporting a team of dedicated Peer and Community Education Facilitators; to support them to apply their own lived experience in the delivery of Peer and Community Education programs to support and empower the community?

As our new Carer Peer Engagement Worker, you will be actively working to support the efficient and effective delivery of Community and Peer Education programs across the East and North-West Melbourne region.

In this role, your key accountabilities include to identify, establish and maintain partnerships with both clinical and community partners across the region. You will be working collaboratively with several internal stakeholders including, but not limited to, Program Coordinators as well as Quality and Service Development teams, to identify, support and mentor prospective Peer and Community Education Facilitators as well as making active contributions to the ongoing development and effective implementation of regional and program plans.

About the program

Community and Peer Education is an integral component of Wellways service offer. Led by peers - people with their own lived experience of mental illness or family members/carers of someone with a mental illness, our Community and Peer Education programs provide up-to-date knowledge on mental health, recovery, treatment, support options, legal and service systems, stigma and rights within a peer learning environment of shared expertise.

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Lived experience of supporting family members and / or others with mental health issues
  • Tertiary Qualifications in a social science or related discipline or equivalent experience
  • Understanding of Community and Peer Education principles
  • Demonstrated organisational and administrative skills
  • Mentoring and support skills
  • Ability to prioritise, multi-task and work effectively within set timeframes
  • Self-motivated and comfortable working autonomously
  • Demonstrated ability to operate in a way that ensures maximum participation of participants
  • An ability to establish effective partnerships including liaison, mediation, negotiation and consultation

Pre-employment compliance requirements:

  • Evidence of working rights within Australia
  • Current and valid driver's licence and the ability to undertake regular self-directed travel
  • Satisfactory National Police Records Check and Working with Children Check
  • NDIS Worker Orientation Module Certificate
  • Evidence of COVID booster vaccination or valid medical exemption
