About the position

As a member of the Communications & Marketing department, the Internal Communications Manager will lead the Institute’s internal communications activity by developing, delivering and evaluating a comprehensive plan that is tightly aligned to the Institute’s strategic direction. You will work across all levels of the Institute and be involved in a range of projects requiring internal communications activity.

The Internal Communications Manager will develop clear, accurate and strategically aligned internal communications that engage staff and students. You will have extensive experience in managing an intranet and expertise in using multiple channels to deliver effective messages that resonate with audiences.

The role requires excellent written and verbal communications skills, the ability to think and plan strategically and the skills to work across multiple projects and with many stakeholders.

The Internal Communications Manager is part of a high-performing communications and marketing team that values collaboration and provides an excellent team environment.

Key Responsibilities

This role will require experience in managing the following responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement and evaluate the internal communications strategy
  • Represent internal communications activities widely across the organisation, including at high level forums
  • Proactively lead internal communications activity in alignment with the Institute’s strategy
  • Manage day to day development and ongoing improvement of the Institute’s intranet
  • Manage internal communication channels including intranet, internal newsletter and events
  • Build strong relationship across the Institute
  • Health and Safety compliance

Key Selection Criteria

Personal qualities

  • Highly developed interpersonal, written and oral communication skills with demonstrated ability to write clearly, concisely and appropriately for specific audience groups
  • Ability to work within a team environment and take a leadership position when required
  • High level of organisational skills with proven ability in setting priorities and operating within set deadlines
  • Well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work with people at different levels, negotiate, network and influence

Knowledge and skills

  • A tertiary qualification in journalism or communications or substantial background in communications or a related area
  • Advanced working experience in the development and delivery of integrated communications strategy and planning
  • Knowledge of contemporary media and communications mediums and an ability to apply such knowledge to complex issues and a wide audience
  • Experience working with content management systems is essential
  • Organisation-wide project management and change management experience (desirable)

Terms of appointment

This position is available for 9 months (parental leave cover) in a full time capacity. Salary is HEW 7 ($90,831 - $98,325). Up to 17% superannuation and very attractive salary packaging options are available.
