Team Leader, Youth Services Program

Wayss is the largest provider of housing and family violence services in the South East Melbourne area. 

We exist so that people have access to safe, sustainable and affordable housing and our vision is to be the major provider of social housing services and leading-edge client support programs in the Southern Melbourne Metropolitan region.

Youth Services Casey/Cardinia provides transitional support and access to Crisis and Supported Accommodation options for young people aged between 16 and 25 who are experiencing or who are at risk of homelessness. 

About the role

The Team Leader is responsible for the delivery of the Youth Services and Step Ahead programs in the Casey/Cardinia area.  The Team Leader role establishes, maintains and collaborates with links across the organisation and the broader community sector.  The Team Leader will be required to participate in the on-call roster for the Step Ahead program. 

Duties include:

  • Ensuring the programs are delivered within the scope of funding guidelines and meeting the needs of young people accessing the services.
  • Working collaboratively with partnership agencies and other stakeholders in order to achieve better outcomes for young people and building the Wayss profile.
  • Monitoring all expenditure in accordance with relevant budgets.
  • Assessing program performance, identifying service gaps and making recommendations for further action.
  • Providing day to day, operational support and direction for team members, to assist them to fulfil the responsibilities of their role and ensuring services are provided in a client focussed manner.
  • Providing team members with regular scheduled supervision. 
  • Referral, liaison and support with external services/organisations. 
  • Working collaboratively with partnership agencies and other Wayss programs in order to achieve better outcomes for young people and building the Wayss profile in the community. 

About you

We are looking for a motivated individual who can lead a team of staff to ensure quality outcomes for clients.

Successful candidates will bring the following:

  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Social or Behavioural Science, Psychology or other relevant discipline at degree level or above.
  • Relevant experience working in the community services sector
  • Knowledge of relevant theories including adolescent development, strengths based approaches and reflective practice.
  • Sound knowledge of homelessness, with an understanding and commitment to the social and political context of homelessness.
  • Sound knowledge of the housing and support needs appropriate to young people.
  • Well developed interpersonal and problem solving skills.
  • Demonstrated experience and capability in leading a team of staff and provision of supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to improving service delivery and practice.
  • A proven aptitude to relate positively and confidently with people from all walks of life, in a variety of settings.
  • Well developed computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs.  
  • Current Driver’s Licence, valid ‘Employment’ category - Working with Children Check Card. 
  • Successfully completed Wayss relevant pre-employment screening and checks, including a police check.
