We exist so that people have access to safe, sustainable and affordable housing and our vision is to be the major provider of social housing services and leading-edge client support programs in the Southern Melbourne Metropolitan region.

Housing Services provides the regional Homelessness Access Point for Southern region in addition to key specialist homelessness service programs that support people at risk of or experiencing homelessness. Programs Include crisis/ early Intervention responses as well as transitional responses that aim to support people to address the underlying issues of homelessness and access secure affordable housing.

About the role

The Team Leader position leads a team of workers in delivering best practice services to young people accessing housing and support across a range of service delivery models. The Team Leader is responsible for the day to day operations of their team and supporting team members in their work with clients. The Team Leader works collaboratively across Client Services and maintains positive relationships with external organisations.

Duties include:

  • Leading and supporting the day to day operations of programs and service staff in line with operational guidelines, service specifications and targets, relevant risk and assessment tools, frameworks, policies and legislation
  • Coordinating the movement of young people through the service system and the allocation of brokerage, in collaboration with other Team Leaders and their Manager, problem solving issues as they arise
  • Maintaining worker coverage for the delivery of services and overseeing the allocation of young people or tasks to workers
  • Building the capability of team members, supporting their performance and the development of practice skills through mentoring and supervision
  • Providing specialist knowledge of service delivery and practice frameworks that support young people and ensures high quality service delivery by the team
  • Liaising and consulting with internal and external stakeholders relevant to the delivery of services
  • Ensuring the health and safety of self and others in the workplace by working in accordance with legislative requirements and Wayss policies and procedures.

About you

We are looking for a motivated individual to lead a team of staff to ensure quality outcomes for clients.

Successful candidates will bring the following:

  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Social or Behavioural Science, Psychology or other relevant discipline at degree level or above. A relevant qualification in management and leadership is desirable
  • Sound knowledge and ability to apply practice frameworks that empower and support young people in their endeavours to achieve and maintain independence
  • Relevant experience leading the delivery of services where targets are met and risks are managed
  • Demonstrated experience in leading teams to achieve high performance
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the homelessness and housing service system and the relationship to young people including relevant government policy reforms and initiatives
  • Demonstrated experience in building positive relationships with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders that contribute to organisational objectives
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously under limited direction
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to improving service delivery and practice that support better outcomes for young people accessing housing services
  • Excellent written and verbal presentation skills.

This role requires a current Driver’s Licence and valid Working With Children Check Card. The candidate will need to have successfully completed Wayss’ pre-employment screening and a police check.
