Wayss is the largest provider of housing and family violence services in the South East Melbourne area.

We exist so that people have access to safe, sustainable and affordable housing and our vision is to be the major provider of social housing services and leading-edge client support programs in the Southern Melbourne Metropolitan region.

This position is within the Southern Women’s Integrated Support Service (SWISS), which is a purpose built family violence crisis refuge facility providing 24/7 support and independent accommodation for people who identify as female and children. The position requires availability for 24/7 roster including sleep overs on weekdays and weekends.

About the role

The Specialist Family Violence Support Worker will work with clients and as part of a dynamic team. The Specialist Family Violence Support Worker assists the work of the Specialist Family Violence Case Workers in ensuring needs and goals identified in client plans are implemented by assisting with the coordination and delivery of practical supports and resources for women and children accommodated at SWISS.

Duties include:

  • Assisting with access to various community services and support the needs identified in client case plans.
  • Preparing units for new clients.
  • Providing an after-hours response to the women and children onsite if required.
  • Providing support to the children’s worker in running activities.
  • Assisting with client transport to appointments.
  • Liaising with case workers/children’s worker to prioritise tasks.
  • Assessing the clients’ social support needs.
  • Liaising with external agencies such as DHHS, Family Services, AOD services and Mental Health Services.
  • Liaising with Wayss Specialist Family Violence programs and Housing programs.
  • Providing advocacy and support activities.

About you

We are looking for a motivated individual who can work varied hours to provide support to team members to deliver quality client outcomes
Successful candidates will bring the following

  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Social or Behavioural Science, Psychology or other relevant discipline at degree level or above.
  • Experience in providing support to people experiencing family violence.
  • Demonstrated experience and capability in:
    • Family Violence Risk assessment.
    • Safety planning.
    • Client needs assessment.
    • Advocacy and support.
    • Client Referrals.
    • Working within a multi-agency environment.
    • Working autonomously under limited direction.
  • Demonstrated innovation in improving service delivery and practice.
  • A proven aptitude to relate positively and confidently with people from all walks of life, in a variety of settings.
  • Demonstrated computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Current Driver’s Licence, valid ‘Employment’ category - Working with Children Check Card.
  • Relevant pre-employment screening and checks which includes a police check.
