Wayss is the largest provider of housing and family violence services in the South East Melbourne area.

We exist so that people have access to safe, sustainable and affordable housing and our vision is to be the major provider of social housing services and leading-edge client support programs in the Southern Melbourne Metropolitan region.

The L17 response forms part of the High Risk Response Services (HRRS) based at the Multi-Disciplinary Centre (MDC) and is co-located with Victoria Police, DHHS Child Protection, Community Corrections, MBDP, Child First, Children’s Services, Aboriginal Services and SECASA.

About the role

L17 Response Workers respond to Family Violence Reports (L17) received from Victoria Police. The role provides assessment, referral and support to women, women with children and to those who identify as women who are experiencing or escaping family violence. The role also provides advocacy and liaising around family violence issues with members of Victoria Police and organisations in the wider community.

About you

We are looking for a motivated individual who can work collaboratively as part of a team and with other services and agencies.
Successful candidates will bring the following:

  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Social or Behavioural Science, Psychology or other relevant discipline.
  • Relevant experience working in the community services sector.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Family Violence service system and operation of the Victorian Magistrate’s Court and Intervention Order procedures under the Family Violence Protection Act.
  • Demonstrated experience and capability in:
    • Responding to referrals.
    • Family Violence risk assessments.
    • Safety planning.
    • Case management.
    • Advocacy and support.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience working with collaboratively in a multi-agency setting that includes Government agencies.
  • A proven aptitude to relate positively and confidently with people from all walks of life, in a variety of settings.
  • Strong IT skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs.
  • Current Driver’s Licence, valid ‘Employment’ category - Working With Children Check Card.
  • Successfully completed Wayss relevant pre-employment screening and checks, including a police check.
