The Centre for Women & Co. exists to deliver responsive, high quality and holistic women services to the Logan and Redland Regions, encompassing domestic and family violence support services and women’s health and wellbeing support services.

The Role:

The DFV Specialist Project Worker is responsible for providing both crisis and counselling support to women are experiencing domestic and/or family violence. Being a specialist within this field the role will also entail developing and tailoring targeted group work to address common themes and trends that the team of counsellors are currently addressing.

About You:

You will have well-developed interpersonal and communication skills, enabling you to communicate effectively with a broad range of people and be proficient in preparation and management of case notes.

You will have relevant experience in assessment of risk and need to determine appropriate form of intervention, provision of information advice, support and referral with respect to the woman’s safety support needs.

Your proven capability to effectively and appropriately engage with women and children who have experienced Domestic and/or Family Violence and communicate with people from diverse social and cultural backgrounds is essential to this role.

Provide specialist counselling and group work to women affected by Domestic and Family Violence in consultation with the Children’s Counsellor or High Risk Team Worker (where appropriate).

Your demonstrated ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast paced environment, together with a willingness and commitment to provide optimum service delivery will enable you to work collaboratively and effectively with team members, clients and other organisations within the Cleveland and Logan community.

Selection Criteria – (please address each in your application)

  • Possession of relevant tertiary qualifications in the human services field, social work, psychology or similar, and relevant experience
  • Ideally 3 or more years’ experience ion DFV counselling
  • Demonstrated experience in counselling and group work with women, children and young people from a feminist perspective
  • Experience and skills in working effectively with women who have or are currently experiencing domestic violence
  • Proven knowledge of the issues affecting women and children experiencing Domestic and Family Violence
  • Willingness to participate in a collaborative and supportive manner with the team and capacity to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Current Police Check
  • A Working with Children Check/Blue Card
