General Director (Voluntary) - Melbourne / Gippsland

Warrigunya Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Corporation

About us

Warrigunya is a Gippsland-based Aboriginal Incorporation (ICN9455) working towards building culturally connected and stronger Aboriginal communities.

We are a newly established organisation who have secured $3.3 million in government funding to build a badly needed transitional indigenous housing and cultural connection facility in South Gippsland for men when they are released.

We will provide a safe place 'our way' for Aboriginal people impacted by the justice and the social system to transition back to their communities in a culturally strong and supported manner.

Warrigunya is a place to reconnect with cultural, spiritual, physical and mental elements of life in a holistic manner in the way of our ancestors and elders of the past and present. We focus on supporting Aboriginal people impacted by the justice and social system to become 'empowered and connected beings'. An empowered and connected being in Aboriginal culture is one who embodies respect and truth and lives a connected way of life in harmony with the community and within themself. The men who attend Warrigunya will become warriors of their culture.

Core Values

  • Harmony: to live in peace within the community and within ourselves
  • Truth: to face challenges with honesty and bravery
  • Caring: respecting human dignity and responding with compassion towards others and ourselves
  • Connection: to be spiritually and deeply connected to land, culture and community
  • Self-determination: having a clear commitment to self-determination while striving for reconciliation and unity
