Wadawurrung Traditional Owners Aboriginal Corporation (WTOAC) is seeking a committed and capable Heritage Advisor to join our Cultural Heritage Unit. About the Role
Based in Ballarat with travel across Wadawurrung Country, this full time role plays a vital part in protecting and managing Wadawurrung cultural heritage. You’ll assess Cultural Heritage Management Plans (CHMPs), engage with consultants and land users, conduct site inspections, contribute to cultural mapping, and ensure compliance with relevant legislation and cultural protocols.
Key Responsibilities
- Respond to CHMP and permit referrals under the Aboriginal Heritage Act 2006 (Vic)
- Provide advice to consultants, agencies, and land users on heritage matters
- Attend statutory meetings and participate in cultural heritage assessments
- Contribute to cultural mapping, site assessments, and data management
- Participate in non-statutory heritage projects, including sensitive sites and landscapes
- Build respectful relationships with Traditional Owners and stakeholders
- Ensure all work reflects Wadawurrung cultural values and governance frameworks
- Assist with the Strategic Aboriginal Heritage Assessment program (SAHA)
About You
- Tertiary qualifications in archaeology, cultural heritage management, or a related field
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in Aboriginal cultural heritage management in Victoria
- Working knowledge of the Aboriginal Heritage Act 2006 (Vic) and related regulations
- Skills in interpreting cultural heritage conditions, CHMP processes, and compliance
- Strong report writing, computer literacy, and attention to detail
- Detail orientated professional with a strong sense of purpose and care for Country
