  • Full Time – 12-month contract with option and intention to extend subject to funding
  • Remunerated at Social and Community Services (WA) Interim Award 2011 – Level 5
  • Salary packaging up to $15,900 per FBT year
  • May occasionally require evening and weekend work

Our Purpose:

We believe in the right of everyone to have the freedom to safely explore and express their individuality. Our society is stronger and more resilient when people have awareness of their personal situation, and their risks, options, and issues around sexual health and wellbeing.

The WAAC was born from a desire to end the trauma, fear, stigma and isolation caused by HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases. We exist to provide support options to people who are living with HIV, or who may be at risk of infection, and to encourage the community to adopt a healthy approach to sex and relationships.

We deliver on our Vision, Mission and Values by providing counselling, assistance with case management, clinical services, education, and community engagement. We bring people together in a safe environment to increase awareness and enable informed decisions about sexual health and wellbeing.

This position makes an important contribution to our business. We welcome applications from those who can demonstrate achievement of the essential outcomes on The H Factor and selection criteria described below.

Selection Criteria:

  • Tertiary qualification in Social Work and eligibility for membership to the Australian Association of Social Work
  • Minimum two years’ experience with demonstrated knowledge in providing evidence-based assessment, intervention and evaluation within social work practice
  • Demonstrated experience in the delivery of case managed services to complex clients to achieve strong client and community outcomes
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of HIV related health and social issues, and strategies which are effective in enhancing the physical, psychological, emotional and social well-being for people living with HIV (PLHIV)
  • Demonstrated knowledge, understanding and experience in working effectively with people from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander background, and people from diverse cultural backgrounds
  • Demonstrated evidence of problem solving, conflict resolution, negotiation and communication skills
  • Demonstrated evidence of effective relationship and stakeholder engagement, consultation and collaboration
  • Demonstrated capacity to work effectively autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Demonstrated success and evidence to work in ways that promote diversity and cultural sensitivity
  • A current Driver’s License and the ability to provide outreach support to clients, utilising fleet vehicles on a regular basis
  • A current National Police Clearance – valid within the last six months
  • A current Working with Children Check

Desirable

  • An understanding of sexual health and blood-borne viruses and experience in and understanding of issues relating to Mental Health;
  • Experience in supervision or coordination of students and /or volunteers
