The Victorian Trades Hall Council (VTHC) is looking for someone who wants to make a difference.

We are seeking to employ a Research Organiser on a short-term contract (until December 2020) to work in our Carlton office as part of our Projects Team. The Research Organiser will primarily be working on a project which supports more women to take up and complete apprenticeships and traineeships in male-dominated industries such as manufacturing and construction. The research Organiser will be responsible for assisting in the development and implementation of an Action Research model, recording and tracking data to ensure the project research outcomes are documented and critically analysed.

Duties Include

  • Support the Project Coordinator and/or lead researcher to develop systems which track progress of workers participating in project
  • Conduct interviews with project participants and prepare case studies
  • Draft and prepare government reports and submissions
  • Schedule and minute government and associated meetings
  • Provide administrative support as needed

Essential Requirements

  • A commitment to social justice and trade union principles
  • Understanding of or experience in Action Research methodology
  • Some knowledge of barriers to women entering into male dominated fields
  • A working knowledge of vocational education in Victoria
  • Good written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to plan, execute and deliver high quality reports
  • Ability to set priorities when faced with competing demands when working to a tight timeframe
  • University qualification or equivalent in research methodology

Desirable Attributes

  • Previous experience working for trade unions and/or related industrial bodies
  • Knowledge of vocational education system in Victoria or experience working with government
  • Experience as an apprentice or trainee in a relevant industry

Salary

The position is based at Trades Hall in Carlton, Victoria, and will report to the Secretary through the Project Coordinator. Attractive salary package, including a monthly RDO and 12% superannuation.
