The Victorian Trades Hall Council (VTHC) is looking for people who want to make a difference.

We are seeking to employ a Project Organiser - Project and Participant Support in the Women Onsite project on a short-term contract (until 30 June 2022) to work as part of our Jobs team.

The Project Organiser - Project and Participant Support will be working on the Women Onsite project to support more women take up and complete apprenticeships and traineeships in historically male-dominated industries such as manufacturing and construction.

This role will focus on participant support pre-employment, including job readiness, and provide back up support to events.

The Victorian Trades Hall Council (VTHC) is the peak body for unions in Victoria. It provides industrial support for affiliated unions and runs campaigns and delivers projects to promote the interests of Victorian workers.

Our mission at Women Onsite is to support committed women of all ages and from all walks of life into apprenticeships or traineeships in historically male-dominated trades. As the central contact point between unions, employers, policy and industry, we are uniquely positioned to drive positive change for Victorian Tradeswomen. DUTIES FOR THIS ROLE MAY INCLUDE:

  • Identifying and recruiting women to participate in project
  • Support the work with training providers and employers to develop and run Try a Trade and Introduction to Industry Days
  • Attend government and union meetings, and prepare reports as needed
  • Provide support to participants to increase their job readiness (e.g. assist participants to improve their soft skills; hold mock interviews with participants, write resumes and cover letters and write and submit job applications)
  • Conduct interviews with project participants and write case notes
  • Liaise with potential employers taking on participants in their workforce
  • Provide administrative support to the Project Coordinator as needed
  • Other duties to support the work at the Victorian Trades Hall Council

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

This position requires some experience relating to each focus i.e., event management, understanding of the VET system and any relevant education achievements.

A willingness to hit the ground running is important and our ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience working as part of a small team
  • Ability to work to a tight timeframe
  • Good written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Some knowledge of vocational education in Victoria
  • Ability to set priorities when faced with competing demands
  • Current valid driver’s licence and
  • A commitment to social justice and trade union principles

MORE INFORMATION

Trades Hall has an attractive collective agreement including a monthly RDO (in recognition of occasional additional hours) and 12% superannuation. The position will be at level 4 ($73,613) in our classification structure, depending on experience.

The position will be based out of Trades Hall in Carlton unless government health directions require working from home.
