The Victorian Trades Hall Council (VTHC) is looking for someone who wants to make a difference.

We are seeking to employ two temporary Occupational Health and Safety Project Organisers on a short-term contract (6 months) to work in our Carlton office as part of our OHS Team.

The Project Organisers will be responsible for helping workplaces be COVID-safe by working with delegates, Health and Safety Representatives (HSRs) and workers to ensure proper OHS committees are established.

The Project Organisers will provide outreach both online and in-person to workers from targeted industries and vulnerable communities to ensure workers are COVID-safe at all times.

Duties Include

• Outreach to workers in vulnerable industries to help them establish OHS committees to monitor their workplace’s COVID-safe plans
• Work with unions and delegates from the targeted industries to reach vulnerable or COVID at-risk workers
• Monitor a purpose-built website and text messaging service to provide OHS advice and referrals for COVID enquiries
• Track and report on activities to meet funding requirements
• Provide administrative support as needed to deliver the project

Essential Requirements

• A commitment to social justice and trade union principles
• Professional or personal experience working with union members, delegates or HSRs
• Strong communication and conversations skills
• Some knowledge of Victoria’s OHS system
• Ability to deliver a project plan, within budget and timelines
• Fast learning, adaptive, enthusiastic and outgoing

Desirable Attributes (definitely not essential!)

• Previous experience delivering training packages and/or adult education
• Some digital knowledge using simple online platforms and websites
• Previous experience working with vulnerable and/or migrant communities
• Previous experience implementing or monitoring a COVID-safe workplace plan

Salary

The position is based at Trades Hall in Carlton, Victoria, and will report to the Secretary through the OHS Team Lead. Attractive salary package, including a monthly RDO and 12% superannuation.
