Very Special Kids cares for children with life-threatening conditions by providing Victoria’s only children’s hospice and professional family support services. Our free-of-charge services help more than 900 families across Victoria, with ongoing support from the child’s diagnosis all the way through to recovery or bereavement and beyond.

We are seeking an experienced part-time Quality Improvement Officer to lead Very Special Kids continuous quality improvement, compliance, diversity & inclusion and risk management processes to ensure the organisation operates and complies with regulatory and accreditation requirements.

This role will suit a dynamic, organised and experienced person to work closely with various committees, and influence at all levels from frontline to Senior Management. Reporting into the GM Service Delivery & Improvement responsibilities include:

  • Support and foster a culture within the organisation that promotes personal effective connected and client centred care for children and families
  • Support the organisation to achieve accreditation status against the NSQHSS
  • Support clinical managers to develop and implement strategies to address any identified gaps in current practice
  • Develop and update policies and procedures to meet operational and accreditation requirements
  • Support the development of data collection systems to capture program outcomes and enable reporting
  • Conduct audits to comply with operations and legislative policies and procedures
  • Review and audit the current Diversity & Inclusion initiatives and action plan with the aim of continuous improvement in access and delivery of services
  • Prepare documentation and contribute to Quality Management, Clinical Risk & Governance and Diversity & Inclusion committees
  • Participate in quality improvement and service improvement initiatives.

To be successful in this role you will have prior experience working with the NSQHS Standards in a health care setting and will bring:

  • Degree qualifications in health or a related field
  • Demonstrated understanding & experience in healthcare quality management systems, accreditation, document control and continuous quality improvement activities
  • Experience in developing and writing policies and procedures within a healthcare setting
  • Ability to lead with a can-do attitude and initiative
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively with both managers and clinical staff
  • Excellent writing skills with the ability to write for a variety of different platforms
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and delivering on project/action plans
  • Ability to provide staff training on quality improvement and the Standards and present information at team meetings
