Very Special Kids provides specialist palliative care for children with life-limiting conditions, improving overall quality of life for them and their families. Our focus on an integrated approach to professional, practical and emotional support services help families create positive, lasting memories together.

We are experts in complex care and tailored interventions for children, and supportive services for their families, across the full journey from diagnosis to bereavement.

Our free-of-charge services support more than 850 families across Victoria from trained family experts and volunteers, including counselling, advocacy, sibling support, bereavement support, networking and peer activities.

Reporting to the Marketing and Communications Manager, we currently have a rewarding and dynamic role for a Communications Coordinator who will enjoy a high level of variety and take ownership of the creation and delivery of communications and marketing content and activities for Very Special Kids. As part of a small team, the Communications Coordinator will be proactive and hands on, with the ability to respond to requests swiftly.

In this role, your typical day will include:

  • Planning, coordinating and executing communications, media and social media content for fundraising campaigns e.g the 24 Hour Challenge, and the annual Piggy Bank Appeal, initiatives and the services provided by Very Special Kids
  • Producing online communication materials, such as website content and electronic newsletters
  • Developing rich content, stories and key messages for collateral and publications
  • Working with third parties e.g. graphic designers, agencies to ensure all internal and external marketing and communications content are in-line with Very Special Kids brand, tone and key messages
  • Supporting the preparation of public statements, speeches and presentations
  • Supporting the execution of the media relations plan to generate publicity through media outlets
  • Coordinating and producing briefs for photography and videography to support campaign collateral

About you:

  • You will have 2 or more years’ experience in marketing, public relations or a communications role
  • Degree qualified in PR, Communications or Marketing
  • Have prior experience in a NFP or health organisation would be desirable
  • Writing skills will be your key strength and you’ll have proven experience in creating engaging content for printed publications, social media, eDM campaigns, newsletters, events and speech notes
  • Developing and executing marketing campaigns from inception to completion of a project will be in your skillset
  • You’ll bring experience in media relations and be able to support proactive and reactive media engagements
  • Your style will be authentic, empathetic and adaptable to be able to engage with stakeholders of all levels, internally and externally.
