The Victorian Public Tenants Association [VPTA] is a not for profit, independent peak body for public housing tenants in the State of Victoria. The Association aims to create an environment where public tenants can fully participate in decisions relating to their housing and environment.

SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITY

  • Ensure the smooth day to day operations of all areas of the organisation's activities;
  • Contribute to maintaining high organisational standards through a continuous improvement lens within the organisation policies, manuals and plans;
  • Work with Board and Stakeholders to develop and execute the organisations Strategic Plan;
  • Ensure that the primary objective of the position is achieved, working within the guidelines defined in the DFFH Service Agreement and Work Plan, and ensuring that all contractual obligations of the Service Agreement are implemented;
  • Identify additional income sources and negotiate supplementary funding streams ensuring that funding requirements are met;
  • Implement decisions of the Board, report and attend monthly Board meetings;
  • Adopt an open and effective communication style with stakeholders and provide timely expert advice and recommendations to the Board;
  • Prepare and present detailed Board comprehensive reports and submissions on policy and/or process issues, recommendations for change or review and ad hoc reports and correspondence.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

  • Diploma, degree or equivalent in Community Development, Social Work or Community Services or a related field and/or 5 years minimum in a similar role;
  • Proven experience in directly working with, and advising, Boards of Management (or Boards) to ensure effective communication in achieving organisational strategic objectives and governance;
  • Proven ability to manage and supervise staff (minimum of 3 years’ experience) and the ability to lead and develop staff to ensure effective Communication in achieving operational objectives;
  • Proven ability in change management and continuous improvement;
  • Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills including demonstrated experience in working with groups, providing leadership and experience in liaising with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders;
  • Ability to develop a range of communication strategies that enhance and improve the organisation’s relationships;
  • Demonstrated Competence in report writing, and preparation of accurate and timely correspondence;
  • Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency with word processing and the use of Word, Excel, email and Internet;
  • Ability to coordinate and facilitate large forums and Community activities/events;
  • Experience in the development of continuous quality improvement processes;
  • Hold a current Victorian Drivers Licence.
