Victoria Psychological Assessment and Treatment Services (VPATS) provides a diverse range of assessment and treatment services for disability clients. About the Role

We are seeking a suitable Behaviour Support Practitioner to deliver services to our clients, their families, and to support teams by identifying their needs through assessment and intervention. This will include developing therapeutic goals and practical strategies to support clients in meeting their goals.

As a Behaviour Support Practitioner, you will be working as part of a multi-disciplinary team with a range of allied health professionals. The purpose of the role is to provide a holistic and integrated approach and to provide clinical knowledge, expertise, and support to individuals, families, and support staff.

Key Responsibilities

Develop, implement and evaluate functional behaviour assessments and behaviour support plans within specified timeframes.

  • Support and train behaviour support plans for clients and their wider care team.
  • Apply clinical assessment and interventions with support from the clinical team.
  • Use principals of evidence-based practice as part of all service delivery.
  • Provide services that reflect Disability Services Standards, Child Safety Principles and NDIS legislative requirements.
  • Actively promoting clients' quality of life through social inclusion, adaptive skill enhancement and reducing their behaviours of concern.

To Be Successful / Key selection Criteria

  • Relevant Tertiary Qualification in Psychology/ Social Work/ Occupational Therapy, Disability or Social Sciences backgrounds. Internal supervision can be arranged for psychology candidates who are looking towards completing a provisional registration process.
  • Ability to work effectively and respectfully with a range of stakeholders. These include clients, the client’s family, the client’s supporting professionals, VPATS’ clinical team and other government agencies, when required.
  • Experience in supporting people with complex and high-risk behaviour support needs (e.g., self-harm, violence and problematic sexualised behaviours)
  • Able to demonstrate skills and experience at a Core Behaviour Support Practitioner level as outlined in the National Disability Insurance Scheme Quality and Safeguards Commission – Positive Behaviour Support Capability Framework 2019.   • Ability to command a second language is strongly desired - Greek, Italian, Chinese etc.
  • A valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel as per the role’s requirements.

  • Salary: $60,000.00 – $75,000.00 Pro Rata
  • Salary open to negotiation for behaviour support practitioners with more than three years of experience
  • Part-time hours: 20-40 per week
  • Expected Start Date: 01/05/2021
