The Position:

The Policy Officer’s primary responsibility is to contribute high quality research, analysis, written and oral advice and stakeholder engagement to support Volunteering Australia’s policy development and advocacy work across a range of policy areas.

This is a great opportunity to work for the national peak body for volunteering. Applicants must be an Australian citizen/permanent resident or have a suitable visa that allows permanent work in Australia in order to apply for this position.

Ideally the Policy Officer will be based in Canberra, however applicants outside the Canberra region will be considered.

Hours of work: 20-38 hours per week, hours to be negotiated

Contract period: 12 month contract starting 1 July 2021 with opportunity to extend

Duties:

  • Undertaking research, including horizon scanning, issue identification and sector trends
  • Drafting, developing and fine tuning of policy position, discussion papers, briefings, and submissions.
  • Undertaking the ongoing development, production and dissemination of key publications and communications on advocacy and policy matters.
  • Collating, researching, and writing case-studies to populate a case-study database.
  • Assisting with the development and implementation of creative, effective campaigns to leverage, promote, and support Volunteering Australia’s policy and advocacy work.
  • Supporting in stakeholder engagement, including the development of strong working relationships with State/ territory peak bodies, peer peak bodies and broader industry.
  • Project management of significant national projects including, managing the CPD PLV program and the Volunteering Resource Hub.
  • Other duties as required.

Selection Criteria Essential:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of, and experience in, strategic policy and advocacy work.
  • Demonstrated strategic stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Strong analytical, conceptual, and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated capacity to undertake research including data analysis.
  • High level organisational and project management skills.
  • High level IT and computer skills, including MS Office and Database applications.
