Position overview

This position is responsible for developing, implementing and evaluating VMIAC’s strategic communication plan to support VMIAC’s 4 Year Strategic Plan. The strategic communication plan will focus on systemic advocacy work to influence mental health public policy and enable expansion and empowerment of VMIAC’s diverse membership base.

THIS IS A LIVED EXPERIENCE, CONSUMER POSITION:

Applicants must have lived experience of mental health issues and/or emotional distress and consumer of mental health services. Applicants will receive supervision and support but must be work ready and able to fulfil all requirements of the role.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA:

Essential:

  1. Demonstrated skills and experience in leading a communications and media function and building a strategic communication plan;
  2. Significant achievements and experience in leading social media campaigns/channels delivering successful outcomes with stakeholders;
  3. Existing relationships with relevant Australian media;
  4. Strategic digital experience to grow audiences;
  5. The ability to work both in a team and independently and to a formal workplan with proven ability to meet deadlines while delivering quality results;
  6. Qualifications in communications, and/or equivalent sector experience.

Highly Regarded

  1. Exposure to complex, advocacy or political environments would be highly advantageous.
  2. Experience in the community sector in membership based organisations will be a significant advantage.

Essential licence or registration requirements

  1. Lived / Living experience as a consumer of mental health services
  2. Current Police Check and Working with Children Check

PAY AND CONDITIONS

Attractive remuneration package are attached to each role and include:

  • Ongoing - 0.8 FTE
  • SCHADS Award Level 6 Pay Point 1 plus superannuation
  • Salary packaging options available
  • Four weeks annual leave with a 17.5% leave loading

All VMIAC roles include training and development opportunities, which can include the development of leadership and other required skills and attendance at conferences.
