The Victorian Aboriginal Health Service (VAHS) was established in 1973 to address the specific medical needs of Victorian Aboriginal communities. The organisation has expanded steadily over past 40 years to provide a comprehensive range of medical, dental and social services for our community.

As well as providing a variety of medical services, VAHS is committed to supporting the well-being of the community through contributions to community events and activities. VAHS is also committed to assisting research into the ongoing needs of the community.

About the Opportunity

The Podiatrist will work within a multi-disciplinary team environment and will be responsible for delivering a quality podiatry service with high standards of care to clients of VAHS, through the application of competent clinical skills in comprehensive podiatry assessment, diagnosis, planning, treatment, health education and management. Culturally appropriate services will be provided on site as well as in the home and will be supported by Aboriginal Health Workers as appropriate.

The position works across a number of program areas and client groups. This includes: clients referred through My Aged Care who are 50 years of age and over; clients who are funded through HACC PYP; NDIS clients; children who are referred by Pediatricians and GP’s; and clients with chronic disease who are referred by their GP and are claimable through the Medicare Benefits Scheme (MBS).

Key Selection Criteria

To be considered for this role you must have the following:

  • Demonstrated experience and commitment to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community and ability to deliver culturally appropriate care
  • Demonstrated clinical competency in biomechanical assessment, diabetes assessment, nail surgery and wound management
  • Advanced interpersonal communication skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience in developing, delivering and evaluating group programs
  • Ability to work in a stressful environment and adapt to change
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Well- developed computer skills
  • Strong work ethic and a high level of integrity and resilience
  • Demonstrated capacity to manage competing priorities whilst maintaining high standards of quality care

Desirable

  • Experience working in a community health setting
  • Knowledge and understanding of the social determinants of health underpinning community health principles

Qualifications, Licenses and Registrations

  • Bachelor of Podiatry Degree
  • Current registration with the Australian Health Professionals Regulations Agency (AHPRA)
  • Current Victorian driving license
  • Current Working With Children check
  • Current National Police check
