The Victorian Aboriginal Health Service (VAHS) was established in 1973 to address the specific medical needs of Victorian indigenous communities. The organisation has expanded steadily over past 40 years to provide a comprehensive range of medical, dental and social services for our community.

As well as providing a variety of medical services, VAHS is committed to supporting the well-being of the community through contributions to community events and activities. VAHS is also committed to assisting research into the ongoing needs of the community.

About the Opportunity

The purpose of this position is to develop and coordinate a series of activities to empower clients of the ITC program who have a chronic disease, to self-manage their health and improve their health outcomes.

Key Selection Criteria

To be considered for this role it is essential that you have the following:

• Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal cultural and social ways of life.
• Demonstrated experience and commitment to working with Aboriginal Communities in a culturally sensitive way.
• Well-developed interpersonal skills and an ability to form effective professional relationships with clients and staff.
• Strong leadership and group facilitation skills
• Well-developed written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong organisational skills
• Capacity to be a self-starter and to work independently as well as part of a team.
• Proficient IT skills.
• Current driver’s license.
• Current Working With Children check
• Current National Police check

Desirable

• Demonstrated understanding of Aboriginal Health, the social determinants of health and the impact of chronic disease on the Aboriginal community.

Qualifications & Experience

• Desirable - Tertiary qualifications in health sciences or equivalent experience.
